Lucas

Lucas is a brave, young 10 year old boy. He loves fast cars, gaming, karate and his favourite toy is Lego šŸ˜

This year in April 2022, him and his family received the news that Lucas has DIPD – Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma. DIPG only affects children up to the age of 10 and up to 30 children a year in the UK are diagnosed. This incurable and inoperable tumour grows on a area of the brain that controls vital bodily functions like swallowing, eye movement, facial expressions, respiration, hearing and taste.

Lucas and his family are devastated by this news but all are showing great strength and determination to leave no avenue unexplored in an attempt to find a cure. He has almost finished his course of radiotherapy at Nottingham City Hospital and has been accepted for a trial of a revolutionary new treatment at a private clinic in America.

Lucas will be the first child in the world to undergo this procedure. The clinic in the US will generously fund Lucasā€™s treatment but his family do have the costly expense of travel and accommodation and the palliative care drug is also extremely expensive costing in the region of Ā£4000 per month.

The following is a personal message from Lucasā€™s Dad, Jamieā€¦
ā€œI always wanted a son, so when Lucas arrived it was the happiest day of my life. He was the most adorable little boy who grew up to be the most polite and friendly child I know, I have never wanted another as he was the perfect little man.
We have had so much fun together over the years playing with his toys which were some of my old toys. Playing computer games with him which turned out to be his passion as well as mine. Starting karate together, with me looking forward to seeing him go the whole way and getting his black belt. The same with cars, he loves them as much as I do. He is more than just my son, he is my best friend who I love with every ounce of my being and Iā€™m so proud of him.
To then be told your child is being taken away from you is something that no parent should have to face. To watch him slowly slip away from you day by day, every day is getting harder and harder. Having both our futures stolen from us, everything he deserved to do, and everything I did with my Dad growing up we will never get to experience, sharing his first beer with him, teaching him to drive, the list goes on.
He has been the bravest out of all of us during this living nightmare. I know I should be his hero but he is now my hero! Iā€™m so so proud of him and how he is handling everything. He has never moaned and got upset, heā€™s been so strong!
From our hearts, we thank you all for your kind generosity to date and would ask if you can continue to share our brave Lucasā€™s story so we are able to achieve our target.”

All the proceeds raised from purchases of Show Guides, Charity T-Shirts and tickets for the Saturday Night Spitfire Charity Cabaret at Newark 2022 will go to supporting Lucas and others in need šŸ„°
