Skamungas take you on a musical jaunt through the history of ska and reggae, from its roots in the 60s with artists such as Desmond Dekker, Toots and the Maytals, Max Romeo and Jimmy Cliff, through the 70s and 80s (where we dwell mostly) with bands such as The Selecter, Madness, The Specials, Bad Manners, UB40 through to the 90s and Reel Big Fish and more recently, Tokyo Ska Paradise Orchestra and Paolo Nutini.
Further, the band is noted for taking classic, non-ska, pop and rock songs and feeding them through the Skamungas machine to be performed as though they were always ska numbers. Our renditions of “Brown Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison and “These Boots Were Made for Walking”, yes the Nancy Sinatra song, are legendary!
The band started life in 2017, and in its short life has headlined Astonbury 2017 and 2019, Live In The Park 2018 in Aylesbury in front of 10,000+ people and was selected from amongst hundreds of bands to play PennFest July 2018 on the bill with the likes of Kaiser Chiefs, Feeder and The Manic Street Preachers. We gigged intensively up to March 2020, and then…the pandemic. We are thrilled to be kicking off our 2021 programme of gigs and are eagerly anticipating playing for you at RETRO FESTIVAL.
