Martin Fuggles

Your host will be Martin Fuggles, who was the DJ at the Ricky Tick, Windsor from 1965 to 1967 and he’ll be playing the very same records that he played all those years ago.

The Ricky Tick
From its early beginnings as a Jazz Club then a Rhythm and Blues Club in a dark and smoky back room at the Star and Garter, in Peascod Street, Windsor (where a then unknown band called the Rolling Stones played many times in late 1962 and 1963), the Ricky Tick became an iconic part of the r and b and mod scenes at various locations in the Home Counties in the mid 1960s. The big, rambling mansion by the river on the outskirts of Windsor, Clewer Mead, was the ‘jewel in the crown’ and other venues included Maidenhead (Pearce Hall), Guildford (Wooden Bridge and The Plaza), Reading (Olympia Ballroom), Newbury (Corn Exchange and The Plaza), and High Wycombe (Town Hall).

Each evening we’ll be aiming to re-create the unique atmosphere of the Ricky Tick in the 60s while during the daytime sessions we’ll be speculating on what might have happened if the Ricky Tick had not closed in 1967 with some Ska, 80s Mod revival and even a bit of Northern Soul.
